Donna Peter, MSN, RN is Associate Vice President, Duke Network Services and has been a part of Duke for almost 30 years. In her role, she oversees Duke University Health System’s subspecialty affiliations with community hospitals, focusing on areas such as cardiovascular, neonatology and telestroke services.
Prior to this role, Donna served as Senior Director for the Duke Heart Network where she oversaw program development and quality oversight for Duke Heart affiliates at community hospitals throughout the Southeast. During her tenure, she was responsible for nearly doubling the program while refining and enhancing quality oversight by aligning affiliate performance and outcome metrics with Duke University Health System’s balanced scorecard.
Before moving to Network Services in 2008, Donna served as Director of Patient Resource Management at Duke University Hospital for over 8 years. Overseeing more than 70 FTEs responsible for care coordination, utilization review and discharge planning, Donna was instrumental in the creation of the department which brought a novel approach to case management for all inpatient services throughout the hospital.
Prior to her work in patient resource management, Donna was the nurse manager for the two cardiology stepdown units at Duke University Hospital from 1994 to 1999 where she expanded professional practice for nurses through an enhanced shared governance model across the two units. Both units were recognized as providing exceptional care with high patient satisfaction scores during her tenure.
Donna is a graduate of Duke University, receiving a Master of Science in Nursing Leadership. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Capital University in Columbus OH.
