Melanie Watson, RN, MSN, ANP-C is Assistant Vice President of Specialty Affiliations for Network Services within the Duke University Health System. In this role, Melanie provides leadership, direction, and quality and operational oversight for the development and management of Duke’s specialty affiliation networks. Her goal is to ensure accountability of assigned specialty networks to the overall mission, vision, values, strategic plan, and policies of Duke Health programs.
Prior to this role, Melanie served as a Senior Director in the Duke Cancer Network where she developed and implemented clinical and administrative plans for affiliated hospitals to support quality patient care within regulatory guidelines and standards of practice.
Melanie began her work at Duke in 2002 when she joined Network Services as a Nurse Practitioner. For five years, she provided direct patient care to patients in multiple oncology clinics throughout community hospitals that were a part of the Duke Cancer Network (DCN). In 2007, she was appointed Associate Director, and later Director of Clinical Research and Education for the DCN, in which she was responsible for developing and managing clinical research and professional education programs at over 20 affiliated community sites.
Melanie is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, receiving a Master of Science in Nursing. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.
